A Mirror with Memory

You know what a camera is??  The most popular definition of a camera is that it is an equipment for taking photographs.  But I read somewhere while googling, and i totally agree that it is a "morror with memory".

I am not a professional photographer, but it is my first hobby, and I try to learn photography & spend as much time with my camera, as is possible. To me, photography is one of the easiest things to learn, but it is, at the same time, the most complicated thing to do. Once you start learning about it, you realise its depth, its intensity.  Though it is my passion, I keep photography in 3rd priority after my career and my lovely family. I Never got any chance to attend any professional training, but hit doesn't stop me to keep n learning new things as far as my hobby is concerned.  So, I'd like to share few useful websites & tips related to photography through which I am ameliorating my photography.

Since childhood, I was very much attracted to cameras. My first camera was a fully manual konica film (without inbuilt flash), costing about 600 INR ($13 USD) summer, 1993.  At that time it was just a means to capture the beautiful moments of life. Years later, I got my first digital camera as a gift from my old dear friend Ashok. It was an Umax make , 3mp, 3X optical, it was the beginning of a new learning era for me...for the first time, I practised digital photography and other basic things about camera handling.

Within 2-3 yrears, I got my Entry level camera.  It was a 6mp Canon S3 IS, 12X optical, sensitivity range up to ISO 800, which I purchased during my stay in Philadelphia, USA. For me, it was the best (point & shoot) camera I have ever come across so far; in some areas, I would keep it above DSLRs ( I will describe 'Why' later). Here is one of the my best shot from it...
Taken in Louisville Downtown, near Humana Building, Cross road [W Market st & 5th street] during winter 2008. Visit my flickr to view all.

My latest camera is Nikon D60, the best entry level DSLR camera, with 18-55mm & 55-200mm lenses, One of the best photos...
My next lens may be one of these...wide angle Nikon 12-24mm, Sigma 10-20mm F3.5 EX , but since my budget is around 25K INR ($500 USD), I'm looking for 2nd hand or some alternatives, lets see. [updates - 02-Sep-2010] - Finally I bought Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X 116 Pro DX Autofocus, 600 USD. Click here to see a sample. So, now I have 3 lenses :)

Here are some of today's tips & useful URLs for all those who are avid learners of photography:

1. Try to maintain(preserve) your photos with a  searchable repository with periodic backup.  Make sure that all photos are searchable, try to attach keywords, tags, location, description, etc with each photo/bundle. I have noticed most of the people buy expensive cameras, click loads of photos and then just dump these somewhere in their hard discs, never to be looked at.

2. Try to clean your bundle before placing it in repository. Do not keep same subject, same angle multiple photos unless these are having significant reasons.

3. Please start believing that "Mega pixels" are not the ultimate power of camera/photography. For general people like us, 3-5 MPs are more than enough.

4. Website/Internet - http://www.burrard-lucas.com : I follow these brothers (Will &  Matt)  & visit their site regularly, they share their experiences along with photography techniques(very few people do so). They are specialists in wildlife photography, having a .com site, blogging site also available in flickr & social networking sites like FB and twitter.
