Smokies

Ridge upon ridge of forest straddles the border between North Carolina and Tennessee in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. World renowned for its diversity of plant and animal life, the beauty of its ancient mountains, and the quality of its remnants of Southern Appalachian mountain culture, this is America’s most visited national park.

Autumn is both a beautiful and a busy time in the Great Smoky Mountains. The annual show of fall colors attracts huge numbers of sightseers, especially during the last three weeks of October. We were among those many tourists who decided to visit the Smokies on the weekend of October 24 - 27. we had booked a cabin in Pigeon Forge, the "Papaw's Bear Den" and we left Louisville on friday evening. The gang consisted of my Devina, Dyuman & myself; along with few other friends namely Isha & Gagan, Praveen & Supriya, and few other friends. We were, in total 12 persons staying in that luxurious cabin. We reached there on Friday night, and soon settled down so we can get up early morning for a day of adventure in Gatlinburg. We left our cabin the next morning for sight seeing, and nothing could have prepared us for the rush on the way up the mountains, nor the traffic delays. After a stop in Gatlinburg on the Sky-top, we decided to go to the Clingmans DOme, which is the highest point from where the fall colour display is absolutely amazing!!!

According to sources, this is the park’s most spectacular display as it includes such colourful trees as sugar maple, scarlet oak, sweetgum, red maple, and the hickories. The temperature, of course, at the dome, was way too cold, but the view was absolutely amazing; and the wispy, smoke-like fog that hangs over the Smoky Mountains is, I believe, comes from rain and evaporation from trees. And it makes the picture perfect of all those who are photo fanatics!!! I clicked my best photographs, as well enjoyed myself to the maximum, for both Devina & I have this craze for nature, and natural surroundings...

That night, we had a great time in the cabin. We had prepared food, and we all enjoyed the good home-made food, and the company. We indulged in fun, and a very famous game "dumsharaaz" till very late. The night ended in the guys enjoying a late night dance sequel, while the ladies got ready for the night. The final day was as good a day as the one before, in terms of photography. The weather was bright and the sun brightened the colours, and made our last day in the smokies a very memorable one indeed!!!
